Capital of Culture 2013

Received an email from James in Transition Crookes/Walkley, and have pasted bits of it below. He says he may attend this event, but if anyone else can join him, that would be great.

Hi everyone,
Is Transition Sheffield doing anything about the city's bid for 'Capital of Culture 2013'?
Apparently Sheffield is in the shortlisted four cities. This Friday the people who are putting the bid together are having a consultation event called 'Whats your big idea?' where anyone can go along and suggest big ideas for the year long event. (a bit worrying if they haven't got any of their own!). See http://www.sheffieldcityofculture.org
But anyway, the successful city will have a bid that involves communities, stimulating culture and social-development that is sustainable. So I think that the Transition agenda is a vital 'big idea' that could be explored during the year. With events and exhibitions and programmes and everything that could give a boost toward the resiliance of the city as a whole.
And there is money of course, about 1.5 billion Euros awarded to the city. Some of it could even be put to good use as well as art!
